igOS: The Intelligent Grid Operating System Explained

Apparent’s igOS™ turns an unpredictable combination of constraints into opportunity by creating a collaborative partnership between customers, utilities and grid operators. Many companies offer some of these capabilities, but no one delivers the full suite igOS™ provides. That breadth is what gives our partners a genuine competitive advantage.
Machine Learning at the Core
igOS™ is a proprietary intelligent grid operating system that uses machine learning to analyze, optimize and aggregate load and generation data to meet demand. With igOS™, Apparent optimizes a system's energy profile, increasing efficiency, reducing demand charges and improving power quality.
Using real-time sensing and correction, igOS™ continuously monitors power quality at the point of connection and adjusts real and reactive power to reduce losses on the grid. Apparent's machine-learning technology then safely transmits aggregated data through encrypted channels to utilities, system operators and generators, improving their ability to forecast loads, manage peak demand and proactively maintain grid stability.
Reactive Power Without Sacrificing Real Power
Paired with Apparent’s SG 424 microinverters, igOS™ can produce reactive power (kVAR) without sacrificing real power (kW), something no other microinverter company can do today. That means Apparent can deliver higher-quality energy, bringing more renewable power to the grid at a lower cost than any existing renewable resource.
Apparent’s real-time voltage support also responds dynamically to voltage fluctuations to help stabilize the grid. Enhanced power conditioning adds impedance matching, frequency adjustment and harmonic clipping.
Core Capabilities of igOS™
Real-time execution of dispatch and control through secure communication channels.
Automated, self-sufficient system that requires minimal manual intervention.
Management of real-time data from sensing equipment, live data feeds and measurements of energy resources, including renewables, storage and generators.
Power factor correction through reactive power injection, adjusting effective impedance at the point of common coupling rather than routing power through additional loads.
Harmonic distortion correction to improve power quality.
Load factor control that reduces peak demand by adjusting local system operation, monitored through a four-quadrant meter.
Demand Management: Reducing Strain on the Grid
By controlling load factor and providing any combination of real and reactive power, igOS™ can reduce demand on the grid, delivering significant savings to customers. Utilities benefit too: with less need to maintain capacity for high peak demand, they can focus on balancing grid operations, improving overall stability.
